Bernd Alt-Epping

Since 2006 consultant in Palliative Medicine at the new Department of Palliative Medicine, University Medical Center Göttingen, with focus on palliative home care and inpatient consultation service.

David O. Arnar

The main topics of his current research are the genetics of arrhythmias, precision medicine  and the effects of atrial fibrillation on the central nervous system including brain volume, blood flow and cognitive function. He has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants for his research.

Ewelina Biskup

Has been a foreign lecturer at the Tongji University, Shanghai, since 2011. During her medical studies, she worked in the European Parliament, engaging in Europe-China projects. EFIM YI Subcommittee member since 2014. Founder and president of Swiss Young Internists.

Reinhard Busse

is department head for health care management in the Faculty of Economics and Management at Technische Universität Berlin, Germany. He is also Co-Director and Head of the Berlin hub of the European Observa­tory on Health Systems and Policies.

His research focuses on methods and contents of comparative health system analysis and assessment as well as health services research (with emphasis on hospitals, human resources, cross-border care, health reforms in Germany, role of EU, financing and payment mechanisms as well as disease management), health economics and health technology assessment (HTA).

Sanket Dhruva

has studied the evidence base for U.S. Food and Drug Administration approval and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services coverage of medical devices and pharmaceuticals. He is interested in improving evidence-based appropriate use of drugs and devices. He is also interested in novel methods of evidence generation to advance patient care.

He is a member of the American College of Cardiology’s Choosing Wisely Subcommittee and is a Teachable Moments Editor for JAMA: Internal Medicine.

Mark Haykowsky

His research program examines the biological mechanisms for the decline in health-related fitness in individuals at risk for or with heart failure, and role of exercise training to improve cardiovascular and skeletal muscle function. A second research focus is in the Cardio-Oncology field with specific focus on the role of exercise training to prevent cardiovascular deconditioning and cardiac toxicity associated with anti-cancer therapy.  A final focus is sport cardiology and cardiac mechanics during exercise in athletes.

Marc Humbert

is the current Director of the INSERM Unit 999 “Pulmonary Hypertension: Pathophysiology and Innovative Therapies” and of the “Thorax Innovation” University Hospital Department. He was Chief Editor of the European Respiratory Journal from 2013 to 2017. He has received several distinctions including the 2006 Cournand Lecture Award from the ERS, the 2009 Descartes-Huygens Award from the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences, the 2016 Rare Disease Award of the Fondation de France and the 2018 ERS Award for Lifetime Achievement in Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension.

Alexandra Kautzky-Willer

is president of the Austrian Society of Gender-Specific Medicine, the Austrian diabetes association, and the International Society of Gender Medicine. In 2004 she received the Joseph Hoet Research Award of the European Association for the study of diabetes. In 2013 the European Institute for Gender Equality elected her as one of the Women Inspiring Europe. For her scientific achievements in sex-specific medicine she received 2016 the national award “Gabriele Possanner Staatspreis” and was the “look! Women of the year in the category research”. In 2017 the Austrian Club of Science and Education Journalists elected her as “scientist of the year 2016”.

María Luisa Lozano

her research interest lies in the areas of platelet disorders, and in cellular therapy product collection and processing.  Dr. Lozano has authored or co-authored numerous book chapters, and published more than 100 scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals such as Blood, Cancer Research, and Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, including articles on both clinical and fundamental aspects of inherited platelet disorders and immune thrombocytopenia, as well as other hematological disorders.

Sean Monks

Since 2012, Monks has been developing telemedicine programs and patient apps that allow GPs and specialists to treat patients with chronic conditions together. The pediatric telemedical program   “PädExpert” received multiple awards (Bavarian Health Award 2014, MSD Health Award 2015, Practise award of the German “ÄrzteZeitung” 2017).

Dirk Müller-Wieland

is Professor of Medicine, Head of the Clinical Research Center, Department of Medicine I at the University Hospital in Aachen, and currently President of the German Diabetes Association and Executive Director of the International Task Force for Prevention of Cardiometabolic Diseases. His current clinical and scientific interests are metabolism-related cardiovascular risk factors and there clinical implications for cardiovascular prevention.

Research:
Exercise training and comprehensive rehabilitation in cardiovascular, pulmonary and metabolic diseases and its effects on endothelial function, oxidative stress, metabolism, muscular adaptation; pre-participation screening in athletes; echocardiography (approx.. 300 publications).

Ole Haagen Nielsen

has acted as Editor of the Danish Medical Journal (Ugeskrift for Laeger) from 2001 – 2007, editorial board member of various international journals including Inflamm Res and Scand J Gastroenterol, and assessor at the Research Councils of Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Germany (DFG) as well as the European Research Council and Horizon 2020. He has published a number of papers focused on IBD. Since 2011 he has been the only Expert Advisor in “internal medicine” of the Danish Health Authority.

Antonello Pietrangelo

During his career, he has received a number of awards, including the Marcel Simon Award for excellence in Iron Metabolism. In 1999, he organized and chaired the First International Consensus Conference on Hemochromatosis supported by NIH,CDC and WHO, and in 2003, he chaired the founding committee of the International BioIron Society of which he was elected as the first President. He has also served in the Governing Board of the European Association for the Study of the Liver. He is currently President Elect of the Italian Society of Internal Medicine.

Vera Regitz-Zagrosek

Cardiologist and founder of the Institute of Gender in Medicine at Charite, Berlin, and of the International Society Gender Medicine (IGM). Coordinator of 3 gender related European projects, EUGENMED – Roadmap to Gender implementation in Biomedicine, EUGIM -European Curriculum in Gender Medicine, and GENCAD – Gender in coronary artery disease. Coordinator of the DZHK partner site Berlin, PI in BMBF project Gender and Age. Coordinator of first DFG Training and Research groups on Sex and Gender in heart failure, 2001 -2015, and the pilot project “Gender Medicine” (BMBF). Task Force Leader and guideline coordinator on “Cardiovascular Diseases in Pregnancy” of the European Society of Cardiology in 2011 and 2016-18. Focus of work: sex- and gender specific mechanisms in cardiovascular diseases. Honorary doctorate of the Medical University of Innsbruck.

Yehuda Shoenfeld

His clinical and scientific works focus on autoimmune and rheumatic diseases, and he has published more than 1975 papers in journals such as New Eng J Med, Nature, Lancet, Proc Nat Acad Scie, J Clin Invest, J Immunol, Blood, FASEB, J Exp Med, Circulation, Cancer and others. His articles have had over 65,000 citations. He has written more than 350 chapters in books, and has authored and edited 35 books, some of which became cornerstones in science and clinical practice, such as “The Mosaic of Autoimmunity”, “Infections and Autoimmunity” and the textbook “Autoantibodies” and “Diagnostic criteria of autoimmune diseases”, all of which were published by Elsevier and sold thousands of copies.

G. Ulufer Sivrikaya

Her career in medical simulation began, in 2008, as a part-time instructor at SIMMERK, Turkey’s first ever dedicated medical simulation center. Since then, she has taken part in numerous national projects and administrative positions in medical simulation.  She is now working as Medical Director at one of the largest simulation centers in Turkey, in Istanbul.

She has also been serving as the “Secretary” in Executive Committee of Society in Europe for Simulation Applied to Medicine (SESAM), since 2015, and the “President” of Society of Medical Simulation in Turkey (MedSimDer), since 2016.

Reinhard Strametz

has studied medicine at Goethe-University Frankfurt and economics at FernUniversität Hagen. He worked for 8 years in the department of anesthesiology, intensive care medicine and pain therapy at Frankfurt University Hospital to become anesthesiologist and is specialized in medical quality management, risk management and emergency medicine. He was medical head of quality management at Frankfurt University Hospital leading the hospital to a comprehensive successfully ISO 9001 certified quality management system. He is now professor at Wiesbaden Business School/RheinMain University of Applied Science, member of numerous national and international quality and risk management working groups and committees and keynote speaker on aspects of patient safety.

Viktoria Stein

holds a PhD in health economics and in her work focuses on health systems organization, specifically how to design contextualized integrated models of care and manage the change process towards such models. She previously worked with the WHO Regional Office for Europe coordinating the development of the Framework for Action on Integrated Health Services Delivery, and supporting WHO Member States in reforming their health systems to provide better services for ageing populations and people with multi-morbidities. Prior to joining WHO, she was a research assistant and PostDoc at the Centre for Public Health of the Medical University of Vienna.
