The history of guidelines began in 1990 when the Institute of Medicine (IOM) published a report defining guidelines as "systematically developed statements to assist practitioner and patient decisions about appropriate healthcare for specific clinical circumstances” [1]. Since the first approach, specific and rigorous methods were defined for guidelines development in order to release credible, valid and trustworthy guidelines, in line with the requirements of evidence-based medicine.
