Welcome!
It is with great honour that we, the Swedish Internal Medicine Society (SIM), will be hosting the 13th Winter School of the European School of Internal Medicine, February 9th– 15th 2025 in Björkliden, Sweden. We welcome you to Swedish Lapland!
Last year’s school was a success and we are so grateful for all of our fantastic participants and lecturers from Europe and beyond. We hope to provide another year of diverse and exciting programme of lectures, workshops and social activities.
Please note that you cannot apply to the school directly from us, but only through your national organisation, contact details here. Places have already been allocated to each country. Internal Medicine residents will be handpicked from countries in the European region by their local organisations to participate in the School. The planned activities aim to improve not only clinical knowledge, but also to stimulate discussion and ideas. We hope residents will develop a better understanding of Internal Medicine and how it is practised in different parts of Europe and beyond. As well as having fun, participants will develop a social and professional network reaching across our region, which we hope will last many years into the future.
Please see the tabs above for more information about the course. For more information about ESIM schools, click here.

Covid-19 – during the school we will be following the Swedish national and local guidelines regarding Covid-19.
Travel
Björkliden is remote in Swedish Lapland – we hope that the isolation is part of the charm, but it does make getting there somewhat of an adventure! With this in mind, we recommend booking travel as soon as possible. Below are some links that may help residents and speakers. Residents need to arrive before 7pm February 9th. Residents depart after breakfast February 15th. Residents should return the travel forms (air or land) they received via mail LATEST 10th January 2025.
We recommend that you take the train from Stockholm if possible. Night train – Stockholm Central (C) or Arlanda airport – Björkliden station (10 minute walk to the hotel). There is one train leaving Stockholm Saturday night that will take you all the way to Björkliden without even changing trains.
However we do understand that many of you have long travels already. If you want to fly, recommended flights for residents are sent out with your welcome letter. The nearest airport is Kiruna (via Stockholm). We will organise one transfer bus from Kiruna to Björkliden with a timing that suits the recommended flights.
If you arrive at another time please organise your own transfer via Bus (Kiruna Airport- Björkliden, Hotel Fjället) or Train (Kiruna Station – Björkliden Station). If you choose to fly to Narvik (Oslo) you will have to organize your own transfer to the hotel.
Please get in touch if you are struggling with travel arrangements.
