Publications are the major output of scientific research and their metrics are extensively used in evaluating the countries' scientific performance. We analyzed bibliometric data from Scopus derived from Scimago (http://www.scimagojr.com/index.php) to assess recent trends in medical research activity in Greece. We examined trends in the annual number of published articles by authors from Greek research centers and compared them with that of the total number of publications worldwide as well as that of the European Union (EU) countries and the most developed countries in medical research.
