We read with great interest the article titled ‘Development of a new disease severity scoring system for patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia’ by Cappellini et al. [1]. In their research, the authors aimed to develop a scoring system for non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT) in order to initiate timely interventions that would prevent any further complications. Ultimately 20 parameters were included in the score, and this would be applied to clinical practice in their subsequent research.
