Dear Editor, the profile of the medical profession has changed dramatically in recent decades, with an increasing proportion of women physicians [1]. However, the gender gap in academic medicine continues to be the rule rather than the exception. For example, women are less likely to be promoted to academic leadership positions [2] and receive fewer research grants [3].
