great debate is ongoing in Italy and in other countries about the challenges faced by primary care, among which its reduced efficacy and lack of workforce turnover [1–3]. Some even envisage “the end of the family doctor” [4]. As a matter of fact, the World Health Organization defines primary care as “the most equitable, effective, and cost-effective way to enhance the health of populations” and fosters an integrated and synergistic approach between primary care and hospital/secondary care, a view that we totally support [5–7].
