Cardiovascular disease (CVD) represents the leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. More than 18 million deaths are attributed to CVD in 2019 while the global trends for disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) and years of life lost increased to 34.4 million (95% UI:24.9 to 43.6 million) [1]. Arterial hypertension is the major modifiable risk factor responsible for structural and/or functional changes in major organs (i.e. the heart, brain, etc.) [2]. The presence of hypertension mediated organ damage (HMOD) reflects the severity and practically the burden of hypertension in such patients increasing significantly their total CV risk [2].
