Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is an apoB-containing lipoprotein bound to a hydrophilic, highly glycosylated protein called apolipoprotein(a) [apo(a)] [1]. Apo(a) is encoded by the LPA gene, and Lp(a) concentration is largely inherited [2]. Mendelian randomization studies have consistently shown a causal association of Lp(a) and the risk of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) events [3,4], making Lp(a) a promising therapeutic target to improve cardiovascular prevention beyond established strategies [5].
