On July 25, 2022, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Monkeypox (MPX) outbreak a ‘public health emergency of international concern’. Indeed, starting from May 2022, 92,783 cases have since been identified in 116 different countries up to November 30, 2023 [1]. The fear of a new pandemic spotlighted the Monkeypox virus (MPXV) outbreak, urging researchers to focus on this topic. As a matter of fact, a PubMed search for “monkeypox” (January 7, 2024), retrieved 3316 articles published between 2022 and 2024, compared to only 874 hits from inception to 2021.
