In this issue of the European Journal of Internal Medicine, Mismetti et al. published an original article titled "Predictors of pulmonary embolism in chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases patients admitted for worsening respiratory symptoms: an individual participant data meta-analyses" [1]. The study brings valuable insight into a complex clinical challenge: determining which patients with an acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may also present with pulmonary embolism (PE).
