Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most frequently sustained arrhythmia diagnosed in elderly patients. AF is associated with an increased thrombo-embolic risk and with the development of heart failure and dementia [1]. Accordingly, AF onset in older subjects could be linked to the fast progression of disability and frailty. We recently reported that the CHA2DS2-VASc score, the most commonly used tool to predict thromboembolic events, was correlated with some instruments of the Geriatric Multidimensional Assessment, and could be, at the same time, an expression of a complex clinical condition and of a frail status [2].
