Sarcopenia has been drawing growing attention in recent years, with a rapidly increasing number of research studies being performed in this field. The establishment of an International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10-CM) code for sarcopenia in 2016 enables its recognition as a distinct skeletal muscle disease. Moreover, the recent guideline update for sarcopenia definition and diagnosis in 2018, the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP2) consensus [1], provides specific cut-off points for each defining parameter and emphasizes screening and assessment with a practical algorithm for clinical use.
