The prospect of international “data sharing” on randomized clinical trials, recently relaunched by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors [1], is fascinating, but it is felt that some uncertainties still remain to be clarified. In today's globalized world, exploiting information to the hilt is just as inevitable as traditional media having to deal with the existence and speed of the World Wide Web: it's something that science just has to accept. However, “better is the enemy of good” and, in medicine, we simply cannot afford to make mistakes.
