We read the article published by Sansanayudh et al. with great interest [1]. The authors report the association between mean platelet volume (MPV) and cardiovascular risk factors. This is a cross-sectional study using 2642 participants of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) cohort. Previous work associated cardiovascular diseases (CVD) and their risk factors with MPV, a surrogate measure of platelet function [2–4]. Recently, we published a paper that shows that increased MPV was independently correlated with diabetes status, and systolic hypertension in the Brazilian Longitudinal Study of Adult Health (ELSA-Brasil), as did the study of Sansanayudh et al.
