Current guidelines give a positive recommendation for the use of corticosteroids in severe community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) [1,2]. This is largely based on positive results from one of two recently published studies [3,4], as guidelines prior to these studies found that published evidence did not support the use of corticosteroids [5]. Now a third study published in May this year [6], substantially alters the landscape.
