Sex and gender are increasingly recognized determinants in the epidemiology, clinical presentation, management, response to treatment, and prognosis of chronic and acute diseases [1]. Sex refers to chromosomic, hormonal, and other physiological and anatomical factors that differ between male and female. Gender, though interacting with sex, is a social construct referring to the roles, identities, and behaviours attributed to each sex [2].
