Vitamin D supplementation is still a cause of considerable controversy. The recent articles of Cimminiello [1], Grant [2] and Cimminiello [3] on the effect of vitamin D supplementation on cardiovascular diseases confirm this. The recently published Vitamin D guideline of the Endocrine Society [4] will not eliminate these controversies. While epidemiological studies show a relationship between low vitamin D status and cardiovascular and other diseases, systematic reviews and meta-analyses show varying results.
