It is known that when physicians fall ill they often find it hard to consult their colleagues. We tend to wait too long and the interaction is not always smooth due to projected expectations and ideas at both ends of the consultation. Recently we experienced one of these encounters. I (a medical doctor in training, currently doing research abroad) visited one of my colleagues as I had fallen ill and could not seem to recover.
