Hepatitis C infection (HCV) is a global health issue that is probably underestimated because HCV infection is mostly asymptomatic. A recent report has estimated that globally there are around 71 million people with chronic HCV infection and around 2 million new infections each year [1,2]. As other Mediterranean countries, Spain has a low-medium endemicity of HCV infection [3]. Preliminary data of HCV prevalence in Spain showed a 0.8% of seroprevalence and a 0.17% (70,000 persons) of active HCV infection[4].
