Whipple's disease (WD) is a chronic systemic infection due to Tropheryma whipplei (T. whipplei), a Gram-positive rod-shaped bacterium widespread in the environment, characterized by severe malabsorption, seronegative migratory arthropathies, fever, lymphadenopathy and neurological involvement, potentially leading to a fatal outcome if left untreated [1,2].
