We read with interest the clinical insight by Cimminiello regarding the role of vitamin D and cardiovascular risk [1]. He dismissed the epidemiological evidence that vitamin D deficiency is negatively correlated with cardiovascular events since vitamin D randomized controlled trials (RCTs) have not confirmed the findings from epidemiological studies. There is, however, the following evidence to show that vitamin D status does affect cardiovascular disease (CVD) risks and that vitamin D RCTs were not properly designed to evaluate the findings from epidemiological studies.
