We thank García-Martí et al. for the interest in our study recently published in the European Journal of Internal Medicine [1], and here we provide further analysis following their stimulating comments. Malignancies are rather common in Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) and we agree that their heterogeneity represents a relevant confounding factor. Data regarding TTS and cancer in our population have been previously published [2] confirming this notion. To answer the authors’ question on lung cancer, we re-analyzed our updated sample [3] and found that this kind of malignancy is present in a small proportion of patients (n = 7, 2%), more frequently in those affected by chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) (n = 3 (4%) vs n = 4 (1%,) p = 0.046).
