Coeliac disease (CD) is one of the most common lifelong disorders and affects people of all ages worldwide [1]. A systematic review and meta-analysis reported that the global CD seroprevalence was 14‰ (7‰ biopsy-proven), with marked differences among countries [2]. In Catalonia, the prevalence of CD in the general population, as detected by serological mass screening, has been well known since 2004 and has remained stable at approximately 5‰ [3,4]. However, there are notable differences between children and adults with the highest prevalence in childhood [3,5].
