Most cases of pneumonia in the elderly are caused by aspiration . Many advanced countries are rapidly aging, and the presence of aspiration pneumonia has been recognized as one of the significant prognostic factors in patients with pneumonia requiring hospitalization . However, there have been few reports focusing on prognostic factors in patients already diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia.
