Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. However, low awareness, treatment, and control rates are increasing the global health burden of hypertension [1,2]. Comorbidities are a frequent barrier interfering with blood pressure management and contributing synergistically with hypertension towards the development of cardiovascular disease. Diabetes is a common chronic condition among adults with hypertension [3]. Hypertensive patients with coexisting diabetes have an increased risk of cardiovascular disease [4], and a higher cardiovascular and all-cause mortality [5].
