Methotrexate (MTX) is a drug interfering with the metabolism of folic acid suitable, at different dosages, for treating neoplastic and rheumatic diseases. It is characterized by a narrow therapeutic index and several collateral effects may appear during the administration of this drug, especially when a high dosage is used. Methotrexate intoxication represents a medical urgency requiring the prompt administration of antidotes and accurate management of frequent complications. According to studies conducted by poison control centers in numerous countries, intoxication following the incorrect intake of methotrexate would be associated with a mortality rate of between 5 % and 24 % [1].
