A 57-year-old Moroccan woman with no relevant personal and family history presented with a 2 month history of progressive loss of vision of the left eye. Vital signs were normal. Ophthalmologic examination showed anterior inflammation and fundus findings suggesting CMV retinitis (Fig. 1A). The remainder of the physical examination was unremarkable. Blood tests revealed hemoglobin level of 11.4 g/dL with normal mean corpuscular volume, reticulocyte count 42,000/mm3, leucocyte cell count 3660/mm³ (neutrophils 61%, lymphocytes 13%), platelet count of 138,000/mm³, normal serum creatinine level and liver functions tests, and C-reactive protein level.
