Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) is a condition characterized by the increase in left ventricular mass due to an increase in wall thickness [1]. LVH is not per se a disease, since it may represent the adaptation of the heart to different physiological (pregnancy, exercise) or pathological conditions. From a pathophysiological standpoint, LVH may occur as the result of increased pressure/volume overload (e.g., arterial hypertension, aortic stenosis [AS] or regurgitation, mitral regurgitation) or a primary cardiac disease (e.g., hypertrophic cardiomyopathy [HCM], cardiac amyloidosis).
