The Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) previously evaluated programs with direct site visits, every 1–5years. The length of time between visits would depend on program data supplied in a program information form (PIF) and the interview of representative residents and the program director at the site visit reviewing and confirming certain facts about the program. In 2013, the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education went to the Next Accreditation System every 10years with certain targeted outcomes viewed yearly to determine whether 10years between visits was acceptable.
