We thank all the participants who attended the European Internal Medicine Curriculum meeting on Friday, 11 December.
Nica Cappellini, EFIM Past President, chaired the meeting with the help of Runolfur Palsson, EFIM President-Elect who welcomed the participants and presented the curriculum and comments received from national societies as well as amendments that have already been made, with a special focus on dual certification and the duration of training and the common trunk.
Presidents and Board Members from 23 national societies attended the meeting. There was plenty of time allocated for an open discussion, where participants could express their valuable ideas. Many useful suggestions emerged. Representatives from Spain and Portugal presented their view on the duration of internal medicine training, which they believe should remain 5 years without any exemption in case of training for dual certification in internal medicine and another related specialty. Following a networking lunch, the participants re-convened to further discuss the topics arising during the lunch time discussions. Rijk Gans, the President of the UEMS Section of Internal Medicine, gave a presentation on EPAs and competencies-based system.
Nica concluded the meeting by thanking all the participants for their participation in lively discussions and their helpful suggestions which will be implemented in the final version of the curriculum.
