As a technical body of the Ministry of Health with functions of coordination and technical–scientific control of all blood transfusion activities, the Italian National Blood Centre, among its tasks, provides indications with regard to the national self-sufficiency program related to plasma and plasma-derived medicinal products (PMPs). In order to perform its functions, the NBC in collaboration with the Directorate General for Health and Statistical Information System of the Ministry of Health analyzed all data related to the distribution of PMPs from 2007 to 2011, by means of the traceability information system , and published the first Italian report on PMP demand.
