Serum uric acid (SUA) is usually interpreted as a single measurement against a fixed threshold. In women, however, this static approach may be particularly misleading. SUA follows a dynamic course shaped by age, ovarian function, kidney function, adiposity, insulin resistance, blood pressure, diet, alcohol, and medications. Understanding this trajectory may be more informative than asking whether one value is simply “normal” or “high.”
