We read with great interest the analysis conducted by Garin et al. regarding sex-related differences in adults intubated for severe community-acquired pneumonia within the EU VAP CAP platform, which encompasses twenty-seven intensive care units across nine European countries during the period from 2007 to 2008. The authors report a higher mortality rate in intensive care among women and a lower utilization of bronchoscopy in women compared to men, despite the baseline severity and antibiotic strategies being broadly similar.
