Sickle cell disease (SCD) is an inherited autosomal recessive disorder that confers atypical haemoglobin called haemoglobin S, which can distort red blood cells in sickle-shaped cells and modifies endothelial environment. Acute vaso-occlusive crisis (VOC) is the most frequent acute complication that generates acute extreme pain that often requires intravenous opioids administration. Some practitioners use inhaled nitrous oxide (NO)/oxygen because it gives immediate relief and a feeling of well-being.
