Prurigo nodularis (PN) is increasingly recognised as a systemic disease marker rather than an isolated dermatological disorder. Although the dominant clinical manifestation is chronic, often severe pruritus with nodular lesions, patients with PN frequently have substantial medical comorbidity. In particular, emerging evidence suggests an association with diabetes mellitus, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. We propose that assessment of cardiometabolic health should become a routine component of the internal medicine and dermatology interface in patients with PN.
