I have read with great interest the recent multicentre study by Bartalucci et al. investigating sex-based differences and clinical outcomes among older adults with Candida bloodstream infection (C-BSI) [1]. In this large cohort of 1132 patients aged ≥65 years, the authors demonstrated that biological sex was not independently associated with 30-day all-cause mortality, whereas age, Charlson comorbidity index, septic shock, and adequate source control remained the major determinants of short-term prognosis.
