Changes in body composition, in particular in terms of distribution and quantity of adiposity and low muscularity, have been frequently observed in end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and associated with poor prognosis [1]. Importantly, low muscle mass assessed by different methods was independently associated with low physical performance, frailty and reduced survival in patients on hemodialysis (HD) [2,3]. Regarding adiposity, a large study showed that low body fat and its reduction overtime were independently associated with reduced survival in HD patients [4].
