Cancer remains a progressive disease with a high mortality despite of multidisciplinary treatment. However, many patients with cancer have recently been living longer owing to advancement in early diagnosis and treatment for cancer [1,2]. Therefore, complications that arise during the course of cancer treatment have become increasingly clinically relevant. Cancer is a strong risk factor for the development of venous thromboembolism (VTE), which was reported to occur at a 7-fold higher rate in patients with cancer compared to those without [3].
