Prior to the introduction of the point-of-care-ultrasonography (POCUS) in clinical practice, internists relied on the stethoscope and physical examination to guide patient management. Largely used by cardiologists and other specialists, the recently introduced POCUS is a substantial change in the practice of Internal Medicine. The diffusion of POCUS, used essentially for lung assessment, increased during and after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. POCUS is a noninvasive procedure immediately available and serially repeatable without substantial patient discomfort but with patient satisfaction.
