When it comes to alcohol consumption, patients and healthcare providers want to know what amount is considered safe. But given that alcohol is recognized as a Group 1 carcinogen [1], this begs the question: is there such a thing as a “safe” level of alcohol? This commentary examines the umbrella systematic review by Dionisi et al., titled "Alcohol use: less is better," [2] which sought to evaluate the available evidence on alcohol consumption and associated risks in order to help inform evidence-based patient messaging and clinical decision making.
