In today's field of internal medicine, technology and publications are exponentially growing. Research efforts require time and resources—both of which are limited for most clinicians. Even if many physician scientists have excellent ideas or hypothesis, they may not be able to attain the funding and support needed to bring the idea to the next level. In this competitive market for research money, grantsmanship is a key skill that is required. This article series will review resources available to physician scientists and provide guidance on how to effectively write research grant proposals to optimize funding efforts.
