We would like to thank all the members who joined us at EFIM General Assembly in Amsterdam.
This year’s General Assembly was held on 1 September at the Beurse van Berlage in Amsterdam, in conjunction with the 15th European Congress of Internal Medicine, the first ever congress entirely organised by EFIM.

Yet another Summer School reflected the beauty and creativity enforced by EFIM. This international, interactive and truly inspiring event was enriched by tremendous efforts and academic excellence of the teachers. Prof.Nicola Montano and his team from the Italian Society of Internal Medicine SIMI has once more organized and carried out an outstanding event, with a fine mélange of an excellent scientific program, humour and team spirit. We are happy to announce that the following EFIM General Assembly will take place on Thursday, 28  August at the Lisbon Congress Center. The meeting will be held during the 18th European Congress of Internal Medicine organised by EFIM.

EFIM made a history on 21st of June adopting the new Statutes during the Extraordinary General Assembly held at the notary office in Brussels.
The new statutes were redefined to reflect the current needs and manage the Federation more easily, to deal more effectively with new issues that might arise, to introduce fair voting balance between member countries. All 31 Ordinary members approved the draft changes and granted Dr. Frank Bosch, EFIM President with a proxy to hold a general meeting and sign the notarial deed at the notary office in Brussels.

EFIM is saddened because of the death of prof Ugo Carcassi. We reflect on his life with immense appreciation for his great contribution to European Internal Medicine. Ugo Carcassi was a very important person for the Association Européenne de Médicine Interne (AEMI) and our federation . He was The AEMI President who understood that change was inevitable and he invented (together with Jaime Merino) the Forum of Presidents to be merged with AEMI into EFIM in 1996.

The 12th EFIM-FDIME Seminar on Clinical Research will be held in Paris from 4th to 6th July.

The 2nd EFIM Day was held on 11 March 2016 at the EFIM Headquarters in Brussels gathering 55 participants from 23 EFIM member societies all over Europe. Presidents, Board Members and Young Internists gathered to take part in the lively discussion on Choosing Wisely campaign by sharing ideas, networking and discussing the latest development in the internal medicine.

We are proud to inform you that ALCHIMIE study has been officialy published in Alcohol & Alcoholism Journal, a prestigious journal in this field.
This project, was promoted by the European Federation of Internal Medicine,EFIM and the Foundation for Development of Internal Medicine in Europe, FDIME, with aim to investigate the prevalence of alcohol use disorders (AUDs) and other alcohol related diseases among inpatients in medical wards across Europe and to assess the recognition of AUDs by their attending physicians

The Foundation for the Development of Internal Medicine in Europe (FDIME) is once again offering grants for Young Internists (<38 years) from EFIM member countries interested to develop research in the field of rare diseases in adults. Grants of 20,000 Euros are available for a study period of up to 1 year, commencing after August 2016. The Funding is intended to support living expenses of the Young Researcher while undertaking research outside their country of residence.

EFIM hereby calls for an Extraordinary General Assembly, to be convened on Friday, 11 March at EFIM Headquarters in Brussels. The Agenda of the Meeting is to consider and approve the modification of EFIM Statutes. Furthermore I would like to inform you that 2nd EFIM Day will be held in conjunction with EFIM General Assembly. The theme of the EFIM Day meeting is "Choosing Wisely on European Level". The idea behind the EFIM Day meeting is to strengthen the relationship with the national societies and involve the societies' Presidents in EFIM activities.
