The global coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic led to severe medical, economic, and social challenges, including a critical shortage of mechanical ventilators and intensive care unit beds [1]. In response, clinicians began employing non-invasive respiratory strategies to manage hypoxemic respiratory failure, among which awake prone positioning (APP) emerged as a valuable intervention. Although most research on APP emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic, challenges remain, and there are still some research gaps.
