Metabolic acidosis is a type of acid-base imbalance that significantly impacts prognosis. It can be caused by poisoning, infections, surgeries, acute and chronic renal failure, diabetic ketosis, and other factors. The incidence of metabolic acidosis in the intensive care unit (ICU) exceeds 10 %, and can reach 40–60 % in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) [1-4]. The mortality rates for metabolic acidosis can range from 29 % to 56 % in adults requiring ICU admission and approximately 10 % in children [5,6].
