Very old people are frequently denied advanced care on the assumption that they will not benefit from such interventions, even in absence of coexisting conditions that may impact their prognosis [1]. The paper by Weller et al., published in this issue of the European Journal of Internal Medicine, shows that persons in their tenth decade who survive intensive care unit (ICU) admission have a life expectancy that is similar to that of people in the same age group in the general population [2].
