Friday, 18 October, 2024 - 09:00 to 17:00

The 9th EFIM Day was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on Friday, 18 October. We were delighted to host representatives from 19 EFIM national societies, fostering lively discussions and an exchange of valuable experiences.
All presentations from the event are available for download below.

Prof. Ricardo Gomez Huelgas, EFIM President, opened the meeting by welcoming participants and expressing gratitude for the support and contributions to EFIM’s initiatives over the past year. He highlighted key activities and achievements following the ECIM 2024 congress in Istanbul, focusing on various working groups (WGs), national and international internal medicine meetings, and the development of the EFIM Academy. Prof. Ricardo Gomez Huelgas also presented the new EFIM Headquarters, marking a historic moment for EFIM as it finally has its own office. He expressed gratitude to everyone who attended the official opening the night before the meeting.

Prof. Agnelli also addressed participants via Zoom, encouraging them to submit articles to the European Journal and subscribe to the table of contents (TOC).

The highlight of the meeting was the keynote address by Prof. Vasilios Papalois, UEMS President, who discussed "The Future of Medical Specialist Practice in Europe" and emphasized the importance of collaboration between UEMS and both national and European scientific societies. Dr. Mark Cranston, EBIM member, was invited to present the results of the survey on Postgraduate Training in Internal Medicine in Europe, which gathered responses from 519 participants. His presentation provided valuable insights into the current state of postgraduate training across Europe, encouraging further discussions on how to improve internal medicine education.

This was followed by engaging discussions on various topics related to internal medicine and patient care at a national level, with presentations from the Belgian, Hellenic, Latvian, Swedish, and Swiss societies. We greatly appreciated the Presidents and Board members for sharing their ideas, best practices, and addressing critical issues in internal medicine across Europe.
Additionally, Dr. Alexis Marbach Muller addressed the participants on behalf of the German Society, presenting a new initiative launched by the society to tackle the ongoing shortages of medicines essential to the practice of internal medicine. This initiative aims to develop a consensus list of essential medicines for internal medicine addressing a critical issue that threatens patient care across Europe.

Once again, we would like to thank all the presenters and participants for sharing their experinces and ideas and engaging in active discussion.
